Turf Laying

Instant turf lawns can provide a major and immediate improvement for your garden.  You can replace your thirsty, weedy old lawn with a premium drought resistant variety that will add value and appeal to your property.

Instant lawns initially require a large amount of water during establishment so it is important to first consider how you will be sourcing this precious resource.   Water tanks and grey water systems make an excellent option and bore water is an option for some people.  The high water demand of instant turf is short lived, as the grasses we lay are highly drought tough.

Lucas House and Garden takes a meticulous approach to laying instant lawns.  The soil preparation and levelling are first class.  We take our time when laying to ensure a smooth and even lawn with the best possible chance of thriving for years to come.

Couch Lawns*

One of the most popular options for new lawns is Couch grass.  This turf is fine and can be mowed very short.  It is fast to repair in the event of damage and the new generation couch lawns even look good in the winter time.  This is the most drought tough lawn choice available.

Buffalo Lawns*

Buffalo is another popular choice.  It is thicker and lusher than couch, with a higher mowing height.  This is a good choice for a back garden where children and dogs often play.  It gives a relatively soft landing in the event of falls.  The look of buffalo is generally less neat than with couch or fescue lawns.

Fescue Lawns

Tall fescue instant lawns are attractive and lush and they can be laid at any time of year.  They are also somewhat cheaper than the two varieties above.  They are however much thirstier than the summer grasses so the home-owner requires an excellent source of water for keeping these in good condition.

*Summer Grasses : Couch and Buffalo lawns are summer grasses.  They can only be laid from mid-spring until mid-autumn.
